What is our project?

During the summer of 2005, eight individuals from the Kyrene School District traveled to Sidirokastro to develop and implement a community day program where children and young adults from Agios Nektarios experienced the love and attention they need and deserve. These eight represented volunteer teachers, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. These volunteers developed and delivered a program that allows children and young adults to participate in a fun-loving program that will provide them with possibly their first opportunity to experience arts and crafts, music therapy, sensory motor activities, and active games.

While we cannot swiftly change the government’s support for the disabled in Greece, we can immediately develop a program whereby (even if it is just for a short time each summer) children and residents of this institution will experience the love and attention they need and deserve. To get this started, we piloted this program during the summer of 2005.

To continue these efforts into the Summer of 2007, funding is imperative to cover the expenses of volunteer teachers and therapists to travel to Greece.  Donations will be used to fund the volunteers’ travel, lodging, and living expenses during the summer program. In addition, donations will be used to purchase materials for the program that will include arts and crafts materials, active game equipment, musical instruments, sensory motor manipulatives, and other necessary supplies.
Our goal is to raise the financial support necessary to offer these children an opportunity they will likely never forget.
